General information

Are you up for an epic challenge? Head off to the south of France with us for a classic climb on the RGT Real Roads: tackle the one and only Mont Ventoux, the Giant of Provence. We challenge you to rack up as many miles as you can between 21 and 30 January!

We start our ascent of Mont Ventoux from Malaucène, up the northern face, for 25.5 km, with an elevation gain of approx. 1,600 m, at an average gradient of 6%. Enjoy the virtual view, because thanks to the RGT Real Roads you’ll feel as if you’re really riding through the Ventoux’s dramatic lunar landscape. Fortunately you won’t have to battle the wind in this scenario!

Remember Wout van Aert’s tip, after his phenomenal victory this past summer: divvy it up! The toughest part of this already very difficult climb is the stretch in the middle. The gradients between km 13 and 18 are punishingly steep, followed by a relatively flat kilometre. A good time to catch your breath and replenish any moisture you lost. The summit, at 1,909 metres, looms up before you!

The goal of the Mont Ventoux Challenge is to ride the total number of kilometres of the Tour de France in 2022, over a ten-day period, with all the participants. A whopping 3,328 km or 131 climbs. The equivalent of an elevation gain of 210,000 metres.
